Can a client get worse after a massage?

The relationship between back pain, posture and massage positioning.

Learn how spinal biomechanics can be affected by anatomical positioning and how this relates to spinal movement and the position your clients are in during a massage.

A two-hour in-depth and practical workshop where we will cover:

  • Overview of spinal anatomy
  • Understanding of spinal joint biomechanics
  • The relationship between functional movement patterns and biomechanics
  • Therapy positioning and biomechanics
  • Optimal positioning for people in pain
  • Optimal positioning for pre/postnatal clients
  • Introduction to home exercises

This workshop will be presented by the UprightCare team who specialise in back and neck pain and postural issues such as scoliosis.

The team: Larry is a physiotherapist who recently completed a PhD looking into the biomechanics of the spine and its relationship to the pelvis as well as has extensive training and experience in managing scoliosis and spinal deformity; Niki is a qualified remedial massage therapist with a background in chronic pain and yoga, and Shana-Lee is a women’s health physio who also specialises in working with scoliosis.

Cost: $75

Two CPE points will be earned, and a certificate of attendance will be emailed after the workshop.

Yoga for Back Pain Workshop

Be confident and able to teach students who have back pain: Understand the anatomy and physiology of back pain, and learn safe teaching techniques for yoga students who have back pain.

This workshop is taught by our head physiotherapist Larry Cohen. Larry has worked with yoga teachers and their students for decades and specialises in back, neck and posture pain. Larry will be assisted by Niki Isaacson, yoga and aerial yoga teacher, who works alongside Larry helping his patients with injuries as well as function and mobility issues.  Click here to learn more about Larry and Niki!

This workshop will be held in our clinic in Bondi Junction, Sydney.

At the workshop, you will

  • Understand the nature and mechanics of back pain – and relevant anatomy and physiology.
  • Learn how to apply the knowledge into practical situations – i.e. what poses to use for what pain/injury, and what poses not to do.
  • Receive a comprehensive coursework/reference booklet so you can take all the information home with you to reference later.
  • 4 CPD can be earned for Yoga Australia Members by attending this workshop.
  • Receive an attendance certificate.
